CITSB - Local ecotax on Balearic Islands calculator.

Tool for calculating the local green tax that came into force on 01/07/2016 on Balearic Islands (Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera) for stays in hotels, apartments and Touristic Cruise Ships. This ecotax is calculated according to the type of accommodation, number of persons and the stay dates.
According to "Ley 2/2016, de 30 de marzo, del impuesto sobre estancias turísticas en las Illes Balears y de medidas de impulso del turismo sostenible" ( see legal text at "BOIB").

The eco tax ("impuesto del turismo sostenible") is levied on Balearic Islands since 01/07/2016 on all overnight stays in tourist accommodations, as there are hotels, holiday homes, cruise ships (see table). Children under the age of 16 years are exempt from the tax.

The purpose of the Tax for Sustainable Tourism is the compensation of the so called carbon footprint caused by the tourism activity on the islands.

Passengers of cruise ships docked in any port of the Balearic Islands, regardless of the number of hours of stay in transit, are subject to the application of the tax. Cruise passengers whose ships have their base port in the Balearic Islands are exempt from paying the tax.

There are two possible discounts:

1) 75 % discount on above rates for stays in low season (between 1st of November and 30th of April).

2) 50 % discount on above rates (or on the reduced low season rate) from the ninth day onwards, for stays of more than eight nights in the same establishment.
